Do We Really Attract What We Think About?

Exactly 10 years ago, a self-help DVD was released by Rhonda Byrne titled The Secret. Subsequently, the book format was also released, and it made the concept of The Law of Attraction a worldwide phenomena. In layman's terms, The Law Of Attraction states that we attract what we think about; that is, whatever you continually think about becomes your reality. In order words, the proponents of this theory believe that you create your life by your thoughts. Just like every theory, some people accepted it, and some kicked against it. But really, for many years, some people have always known/believed that we do attract what we think about, Rhonda Byrne just brought the concept back in a bigger way, with powerful marketing. So, do we really attract what we think about?

I won't claim to be an expert in this field, cos if I was, I would have solved all my problems by now. And trust me, I have a lot of them. But I can say I am a little more knowledgeable about this claims than the average man on the streets. But I still have a lot of unanswered questions concerning the theory. So, in this article, I would be sharing some personal examples of how I have experimented with the power of thought/visualization, and the results that I have gotten.

I have always liked the Land Rover 3 (LR3), so I made it one of the things I would love to attract to myself, with my thoughts. The year was 2010, and I had had a few very interesting positive results with the law of attraction. Most of them were of small things like phones, relationships, and small amounts of money. So, I thought it was time to try out something really big. So, I made owning the LR3 my goal. So, like The Secret DVD instructed, I would take out 10 minutes a day, go somewhere quiet, and visualize being in the possession of that thing I wanted to attract to myself. I would see myself in the LR3, riding down my street. I would do this for a couple of days, and then I would quit, then start up again after a few weeks. One day, while in my visualization session, my brother came to wake me that my friend, Soji was downstairs in the parlor.

My friend was meant to be in the U.K so I didn't answer my brother at first, but when I went downstairs, I met Soji's brother downstairs. I was shocked. We weren't close, and he had never been to my place before. I thought maybe my friend had passed on and he had come to inform me. I quickly perished the thought and greeted him. He asked for us to go and talk outside. When I opened my gate, I saw a black LR3 packed on the other side of the road. And then, my friend jumped out of it. He had come in a few days earlier and wanted to surprise me. We greeted, and then I got into the front seat of the car, and RODE AROUND MY STREET.

Hmm! Do you get it? I had actually attracted what I thought about, but not exactly how I wanted it to be. I wasn't the owner of the car, but I did ride in it. This and many other tests of the law makes me believe we do attract what we think about, although it might not come exactly how we imagined it. I thought to myself, maybe the car was too big for me right now, so I tried to get a red Toyota Camry. I followed the same process, but this time, I made sure I was the one behind the wheel, drivng the car. I even made sure I was driving somewhere not close to my house, so I usually imagined driving along Osbourne road in Ikoyi, Lagos.

I continually did this, and also looked down at the Toyota logo at the middle of the steering wheel of the car every-time I visualized. One day I was driving my Dad and Mom for a party, and then my Mom told me her sister was coming around for the same party but didn't know the directions. So, we met up around Ikeja, and I took off. Just as we were about to get to the destination, the gearbox of the car I was driving stopped working, so I had to park on the side of the road. Luckily for me, the person driving my Aunt's car happened to be a mechanic, so he went under the car to see what he could do. After a few minutes, he came out and said he could manage to drive it to the venue, and then fix it properly there. He would be in front with my Dad directing him, and I would be driving behind him, in my Aunt's car. He handed me the keys to my Aunt's car, and the reality of what was happening didn't dawn on me, till I was in the RED CAMRY driving it, ALONG OSBOURNE ROAD IN IKOYI, and OCCASIONAL LOOKING DOWN AT THE TOYOTA LOGO IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STEERING WHEEL. Hmm! Not again!! I thought to myself.

As I said in the beginning of this article, I still have a lot of questions on this theory myself. But I know it works in some way. I know if it didn't work, dozens of books wouldn't have been written about the concept- Books like Think And Grow Rich (Napoleon Hill), The Secret (Rhonda Byrne), The Power of Positive Thinking (Norman Vincent Peale), The Science of Getting Rich (Wallace D. Wattles), As A Man Thinketh (James Allen), The Power of Your Subconscious Mind (Joseph Murphy), Mind Power Into The 21st Century (John Kehoe), and a host of other books on Law of Attraction/power of thought.

So, all this wonderful books, and lovely articles on the internet is enough to fully grasp the concept, and apply it to ones life, right? Yea, but personally, I still have some problem with attracting what I want. I guess my problem is that I have read so many books and articles on the matter, and gotten so many angles to it that I have become confused on which way to take, and so I start and stop, and start and stop. Like Chinese Communist Revolutionary, Mao Zedong said, "To read too many books is harmful." I guess I have to agree with Mao on this one.

Okay, I am digressing a bit, let me get back on track. Yea, I would like to share another of my experiences with the power of visualization. The authors of most of the law of attraction books always stressed being really passionate about what you want to attract so that when you think/visualize, a lot of feelings go with your thoughts. So I thought about trying to attract a girl. I knew it would be easier for me to build up feelings for what I needed in this area, so I went to work.Three days after I started with my new mission, I was at a midweek church service, when this bunch of girls came up to me and one of them said, "Hello, do you know where we are to wait for the seminar?" I didn't know what she was talking about, so I said "No." She smiled and left. As she walked away with her friends, I remembered a man had asked graduates looking for jobs to wait behind, and I guessed that was what she was talking about. When I took a very good look at her, I noticed she had all the physical qualities of the type of girl I had been visualizing about. And I had just let her go, without continuing the conversation. The universe had delivered the event, but I had failed to act. DAMN!

Anyway, I later went for the seminar, and it was postponed to the next day. So, I got there the next day, ready to learn how I could get a job. I had totally forgotten about the girl. The man that spoke to us was a great speaker, and it lifted my spirit. I didn't go out during the break, and the girl that sat beside me had asked for me to please reserve her seat for her. When she walked in after break and went straight to back, I wondered what was happening, till I saw the girl from yesterday walk straight up to take the seat beside me. Apparently, the girl that had been sitting beside me was her friend, and they got talking during break, and decided to swap seats so she could get to meet me. Long story short, we started off something that day. So, yea, I did attract what I thought about. It does work.
