Nothing in Life is Free

I know people like to say the best things in life are free, but really, if you take time to think about it, nothing in life is free. If you didn't pay for it initially, you will pay for it later. And if you don't get to pay for it later, then you probably paid for it in the past without knowing, or someone is currently paying for it. And even if you get something for free from someone or a company, you are probably paying with a more valuable currency- TIME.

A lot of people overlook this fact, but really, your time is limited, so it is a more valuable currency than money. If you spend time in line to get something free, or you let someone control your life cos she or he is helping with some handouts, you really ain't getting that money or service for free, cos you have paid for it with your time. So, you see, whichever way you look at it, nothing in life is really free.

You think love is free? Think again. Love is mostly conditional, and that condition attached to it cost something...whether in time currency or money currency, so how can love be free? That conducive atmosphere that acted as a catalyst for you falling in love with that girl or guy cost something.  I remember walking into my dorm room back in the University and seeing my friend looking sad. I asked him what happened. He told me he walked on his girlfriend looking sad, and after pressing her for what the issue was, she finally blurted out, and I quote, "Why don't you have a car like Sade's boyfriend? Why do we have to walk everywhere?" The story always makes me laugh when I think of it cos this particular girl wasn't in any way the materialistic type, so it was a shocker for me to know she actually said that.

Let me explain further why love is not free with a quote from the late motivational author, Wallace D. Wattles, "A man's highest happiness is found in the bestowal of benefits on those he loves: love finds it's most natural and spontaneous expression in giving. The man who has nothing to give cannot fill his place as a husband or father, as a citizen, or as a man." This is the bitter truth.

Nothing is really free in life. Even if you say religion and salvation is free, think about the change in lifestyle you have to undergo for that. The 'do's and don'ts.' That isn't FREEdom.

I hear someone say, what of the air we breath, that is free. Hmm! Look at it this way...Air is a substance you can fly a plane in, and since each country in the world can stop a foreign plane from flying over its airspace, by analogy, the government of the country you reside in owns the air you breath.

You can also argue that admiring and walking in nature is free, but you don't consider the money you spend to get to the beach or that resort center you love so much. Also consider the fact that every minute you spend in nature is a minute lost which could have been spent in making money to take care of many important things in your life. So, one way or the other, you are still spending some sort of currency...whether it is time or money. Really, time is money. In the end, nothing in life is really free.
